Things to Know

Q: What do the plus (+) and minus (-) buttons do?
A: The plus and minus buttons adjust the trailer brake controller gain setting, which controls the amount of braking power applied to the trailer. Holding either button will continuously increase or decrease the gain setting.

Q: How do I set the correct trailer brake gain?
A: We recommend testing your trailer brake settings on a smooth, dry road at 20–25 mph using an initial gain setting of 6.0.

Q: How do I know if my gain setting is too high?
A: If the trailer wheels lock up or the tires squeal during testing, the gain setting is too high and should be reduced.

Q: How do I know if my gain setting is too low?
A: If the trailer wheels continue to roll freely and braking performance feels insufficient, the gain setting should be increased.

Q: Where can I view the Trailer Brake Controller (TBC) information?
A: The Trailer Brake Controller display is located within the Truck Apps menu on your vehicle's LCD instrument cluster.

Q: Will the Trailer Brake Controller information display on the radio screen?
A: No. Trailer Brake Controller information is only displayed within the instrument cluster and does not appear on the radio screen.

Q: Why does my display show "Trailer Disconnected"?
A: This message is normal and will be displayed whenever a trailer is not connected to the vehicle.

Q: What information is shown once a trailer is connected?
A: After connecting a trailer, the display will show the current gain setting along with a bar graph indicating the amount of braking power being applied to the trailer.
