Ram TPMS Upgrade: 2019-2024 Ram HD Factory Trailer Tire Pressure Monitoring System

Every Ram owner knows the feeling. You're an hour into a tow, moving at highway speed, and that quiet voice in the back of your head starts asking: "Are my trailer tires okay back there?" Without a trailer TPMS system, the only way to answer that question is to pull over, get out, and check manually. That's time lost, and more importantly, it's a safety risk you shouldn't have to take.

This factory Ram tire pressure monitoring system upgrade changes all of that. Designed specifically for 2019-2024 Ram Heavy Duty trucks, this plug-and-play kit brings OEM-grade trailer tire monitoring straight to your dashboard display, so you always know what's happening behind you without leaving the driver's seat.

Why Ram Owners Upgrading to a Trailer TPMS System Never Look Back

  • Real-time tire pressure and temperature alerts for up to four trailer tires

The Ram TPMS Problem You Didn't Know You Had

A cross-country haul with the camper. A weekend run to the lake with the boat. A lumber load for the backyard project you've been putting off for months. These are the moments Ram owners live for. But towing without a trailer TPMS system means you're flying blind on your trailer tires the entire time.

Underinflated trailer tires don't just wear out faster. They increase rolling resistance and hurt your fuel economy. They reduce your braking stability and handling. On a hard pull through mountain switchbacks or a long interstate stretch, a slow leak can turn into a blowout before you ever notice a change in how the truck feels. By then, you could be dealing with a damaged trailer, a dangerous sway situation, or worse.

Aftermarket TPMS compromises exist, but they come with their own headaches. Separate displays, app dependencies, compatibility issues, and install complexity that just doesn't match the clean factory experience your Ram deserves.

This trailer TPMS system upgrade is an OEM solution, built for Ram HD owners who want the real thing: a factory-grade system that integrates with the truck the way it was always meant to.

How the Ram HD Factory Trailer Tire Pressure Monitoring System Works

Once installed and programmed for with the XG9 option code, this Ram tire pressure monitoring system communicates directly with your truck's existing electronics. Tire pressure and temperature data from your trailer sensors feed straight into your factory display, whether you're monitoring from the cluster or the main infotainment screen.

Here's how it shows up for you on the road:

From your radio screen, go to Vehicle, then Towing and Trailers, and your trailer tire pressure readings are right there on the first page. Set your target PSI during the pairing process, and from that point forward, the system monitors every tire in real time. The moment something goes wrong, you'll know about it from the driver's seat, long before it becomes a problem on the shoulder of the highway.

The pairing process itself walks you through each tire one by one using a guided dashboard menu. The system supports up to four tires across single or dual-axle configurations, so it works for boat trailers, campers, horse trailers, car haulers, utility trailers, and more.

Product installation

Installation of this product would be rated a 3 out of 5. 1 being extremely easy and 5 being extremely difficult. It is recommended prior to installing any automotive electronics that the negative battery terminal be disconnected.

For pre-wired trucks, the kit includes:

  • A trailer interface module
  • A jumper harness
  • An antenna (mounts near the rear bumper, behind the license plate area)
  • Push pins for factory mounting locations
  • A Genie programmer with a serial gateway bypass for OBD2 programming

Not sure if your truck is pre-wired? There are two checkpoints to look for. First, check behind the rear license plate area, near the spare tire. You're looking for a four-pin plug on the driver's side of the hitch. That's your antenna connection. Second, pull back the headliner near the passenger-side C-pillar. If you see a small jumper harness terminated up in that corner, your truck is pre-wired and ready to go.

Things to Know

Q: Does this kit require a serial gateway bypass for programming?
A: Yes. The included Genie programmer requires a serial gateway bypass to communicate with your truck's modules. The bypass plugs into the OBD-II port and connects to the CAN Star connectors behind the headlight switch panel, eliminating the need to remove the instrument cluster.

Q: I already have a serial gateway bypass installed from a previous Infotainment.com upgrade. Do I need to install another one?
A: No. If your truck already has an Infotainment.com serial gateway bypass installed, you can skip directly to the programming process.

Q: How do I know if my Ram Heavy Duty is pre-wired?
A: There are two checkpoints:

  • Check behind the rear license plate area near the spare tire for a 4-pin antenna connector on the driver's side of the hitch.
  • Pull back the headliner near the passenger-side C-pillar and look for a small factory jumper harness.

If both are present, your truck is pre-wired and only requires the standard kit. If not, you'll need the non-pre-wired kit.

Q: What is included with the pre-wired kit?
A: The pre-wired kit includes:

  • Trailer Interface Module
  • Jumper Harness
  • Trailer TPMS Antenna (mounts behind the rear license plate area)
  • Factory-style mounting push pins
  • OBD Genie Programmer
  • Serial Gateway Bypass for programming

Q: Why do I need to provide my VIN?
A: Your 17-digit VIN allows us to configure the programming modules specifically for your truck. This ensures proper operation and is part of our Compatibility Guarantee.

Q: What do I need during the trailer sensor pairing process?
A: We recommend having a portable tire inflator available. During pairing, each trailer tire must be deflated by approximately 5 PSI until the truck's horn chirps to confirm the sensor has been detected. You can then immediately restore the correct tire pressure.

Q: Can I leave the serial gateway bypass installed after programming?
A: Yes. The bypass can remain installed permanently. If desired, you can remove the locking tabs from the CAN connectors to make future removal and reinstallation easier.

Q: Which factory radio systems is this upgrade compatible with?
A: This upgrade is compatible with both UBQ and UAX factory radio systems, allowing it to work regardless of which factory display your Ram is equipped with.
