Ford Sync 4 Tutorial

Hello, everyone. This is Adam from infotainment.com. Today, we’re going to be looking at the Sync 4 in a 2022 Ford Bronco. I’m going to be showing off a few of the features here today.

Features of Sync 4

Now, the biggest differences between the Sync 3 and Sync 4 are the size of the screen and the wireless CarPlay and Android Auto capability of the Sync 4. Currently, I am connected to my phone right now with Android Auto, and I don’t have to use any wires whatsoever for it, which is the biggest main difference between the two. Another feature of the Sync 4 is something over here called information on demand. This is a shortcut to the valuable information that you’d want. Say we want the trip information, we want our MPG. Of course, we also had that with the fuel economy, but this gives us more information to that. Then we also have whoever’s phone is connected. Then we also just have the side navigation position, just in case. Then we also have the Android Auto, which is currently playing my music. And then we also have zone lighting that displays what zone lighting we currently have on. Then we also have the off-road status of our axial because this is an off-roading vehicle. Then we also have the pitch and roll, which unfortunately, I can’t really show. Otherwise, I would completely break this camera that’s currently recording the screen. And that’s the information on demand. You can see all of them just by scrolling like this. Pretty neat.

Upgrade from Sync 3 to Sync 4

Now, one thing I want to mention before I really start getting into this is I’ve seen a lot of talk online saying that you cannot upgrade a sync 3 to a sync 4. Actually, you can. Through infotainment.com, you can see if your vehicle is compatible to have a sync 3 to sync 4 upgrade. It is completely possible and it’s completely OEM and not aftermarket. Now, with that being said, it is mostly just the Ford trucks and not just every single Ford vehicle that has sync 3 in it. For right now, it is mostly just the trucks. So make sure to look at your vehicle’s compatibility before you make any decision to upgrade your sync 3 to your sync 4.

Sync 4 Audio Features

Now, let’s go through all the tabs. We have the first tab here, which is the audio tab. Now, in the Audio tab, we have the usual suspects like AM, FM, and Sirius. If you have a Sirius XM subscription, you’re able to set up profiles according to whoever is driving the car currently. So one driver may want to listen to rock music, another driver may want to listen to country or electronic or whatever else. And they can set up profiles personally tailored to them. So whoever is driving can listen to their music whenever they want and now another source that we can get music from is your phone. So it’ll either be from Bluetooth or you can have it from your CarPlay or Android Auto. In my case, Android Auto because I’m using an Android phone. But if you don’t want to use Android Auto, you can just use Bluetooth and just connect to your Spotify to it. Speaking of Android Auto, let’s look at it now. Currently, we have my music here on display, and on the right, we have my maps, we can just click around and just switch them around whenever we want. We have the maps over here and the music over there.

Maps Features

Here in Android Auto, we have my maps over here, which is set to satellite mode, which you can, of course, play around with. You can pinch, you can squeeze, you can even change the settings. But this is, of course, just standard with Google Maps. Now, if you want to get rid of the side panel, just completely, you can just go up here and just press Google Maps again. And there we go. We have a huge map screen available to us. Of course, if you want to bring it back, you can always just bring it back over here, and you can switch it again, and then it’ll be right back to where it was before. Now, one feature about this is that you can use Waze on this. So if you wanted to use Waze instead of Google Maps, you can do that. And if I was using CarPlay, you could also have access to Apple Maps as well. But because I’m using an Android, I do not have access to it.

Now, seeing as Android Auto is basically connecting your phone to your car, you can, of course, call people from this, and you can also message people with voice commands. Over here, we can go to our settings and we can show conversations if they will pop up when you’re driving, we will show the first line of the conversations, too, so you know what they’re about.

Then you can have the conversation chime in case you’re afraid of missing something. We can start music to play automatically when it’s starting up in Android Auto, so it automatically connects to your Spotify and starts playing whatever song was playing last. You can also change the wallpaper of this background here whenever you’re looking at the apps.

Now, here are the apps which are connected from my phone, all of these apps I am able to use right here in the car instead of just looking at my phone all the time. This is a great hands-free device. Now, if you’re okay with just using Google Maps and Waze, that’s all fine and dandy here. However, we can’t overlook the navigation system that’s built into the Sync 4 because from the Sync 3 to the Sync 4, they’ve come a really long way here because now not only can you have voice activated navigation, you also have cloud-based navigation with real-time traffic and weather alerts. Another thing here is that you can avoid more things than you could, say, if you’re using Google Maps or Waze. You can even avoid tunnels and country borders as well. Also, if we were to look something up and actually go to someplace, let’s say the YMCA again, we can choose to include 4 by 4 roads, but in this case it wouldn’t really matter. But the option is there.

Now, over here we have our apps. However, because I’m using Android Auto, this menu is not very helpful for me because we can just use Android Auto, and I have all my apps that I want to use here. So for right now, this is a bit of a redundant place, but if you had iHeartRadio or Pandora, you could access them here. Let’s go to settings. Here we have the phone list. There’s my phone. We have the sync navigation. Which is just another way to access the settings of the navigation here, which you can also use by just going to the menu here. We have the sound here and we have the tone settings, so we got the triple mid-range and bass. We also have the balance and fade, which I think is a cool little thing to have where you can center where you want all of the sound to converge in your car. Of course, we’re going to reset that back to where it was because that’s That’s where I like it. So we also have speed compensated volume. Now, speed compensated volume will turn up the volume of the radio when you’re going down on a highway and you’re getting more and more air resistance and wind resistance being pushed onto your car, which does make a lot of noise.

So what will end up happening is that this will detect that if you’re going over a certain speed, and then it will try and automatically turn up the volume for you. So it’ll still try to be at the same volume as it when there wasn’t any wind at all. Now, occupancy mode is pretty much the same as bounce and fade, but you can’t really fine tune it. You can only just do all seats and driver.

Other Vehicle Settings

Back in settings, we have the vehicle settings. So we have things like 30min max idle, we have rear occupant alert, and we also have My Key. So my key is interesting because if you have another set of keys, you can add restrictions to them. Like, say, you don’t want the next driver to go over 85 miles an hour, or you don’t want them turning off traffic control or you don’t want them turning off 911 assist, things of that nature. And of course, we have the remote start setup, windows, wipes, lighting. And this includes the auto high beams, which make it so it will automatically turn on high beams at night. And of course, we have the zone lighting.

But this isn’t where you actually set the zone lighting. You actually set zone lighting and features, but we’ll be getting to that pretty soon. We also have the clock down here, which is really easy to change If, say, daylight savings time started or ended, you could easily just change it like that. Now we’re in general, so we can set the sink floor as a language and the temperature units, the measurement units and miles and the tire pressure units, just things like that. You can also set it so it doesn’t beep whenever I touch something. But in all honesty, I actually like the beep, so we’re going to keep it like that. Then everything else down here is just your general information about the actual car and the Sync 4.

Display Settings

Now, let’s go to the display settings. In the display settings, we can just simply turn the display off, which we can bring back. And same thing with the calm screen, except the calm screen gives us a simplified view where there’s no distractions at all, which, of course, you can bring back by just simply tapping the screen. Of course, we could set the brightness of the screen, and it will automatically detect if it’s daytime or nighttime, so it’ll adjust the brightness by itself.

Connectivity Settings

We have connectivity. That’s just simply connecting to Bluetooth and wireless applications. Over here, we have the vehicle hotspot, which if you wanted to actually set up a hotspot inside of the vehicle, you could do that here. We have over-the-air software updates, which you don’t need a USB for. Then we have the forward assistant, so we can set up wake words and commands and things of that nature. Now, similar to Ford Assistant, we also have Amazon Alexa, and we also have the 911 assist. Now, 911 Assist, what this does is if it detects that the air tag was deployed, it will automatically call 911 for you on your phone. All right, we’ve looked at the major settings.

Driving Settings

Let’s look at the features now. We have driver assistance. It’s mostly just safety features like cruise control, lane keeping, pre-collision rear view camera, cross traffic alerts, driver alerts, things like that. Then, of course, we have zone lighting. You can set the zone lighting of your vehicle. Of course, you need to turn off the physical switch for that to work. And then last but not least, we have the searchable owner’s manual. In case you needed to know anything about the vehicle, everything is right here, and there’s videos to show you everything, and bookmarks, and visual searches.

Pretty much anything that you want to know about this vehicle, you’ll find very easily. All right, and that’s the end of our guided tour of the sync force system in the Ford Bronco.
